According to this story in Newsday, a third of New Yorkers (statewide) would approve of internment camps for “individuals who authorities identify as being sympathetic to terrorist causes.”
Only half outright rejected the idea.
“In the current context, when you ask that question you're going to get that kind of response,”James Zogby, president of the Washington-based Arab American Institute, said. “I would say if you asked people, `Should terrorist sympathizers have their toenails forcibly plucked from their toes?', you would probably get something akin to that.”
